Mini Holiday - Day 1

It's a beautiful day here in Bundaberg today - quite warm but not too hot.  My friend Jan set us up with a couple of fans on our tables in the work area and we had great company with Zoe, her Tenterfield Terrier who was absolutely delighted that her 'mummy' was staying home today.

We are both starting a new project for the Fair in Sydney and want to have most of it at least, finished by the time I go home.  So today we primed the pieces of our kits with primer/sealer/undercoat.  Jan is doing the Tuscan Villa from Karen Carey, and the next step for her once the primer was dry was to fill the grooves in all the cut edges of windows etc with 'sausages' of paper clay.  It's not ready for a photograph yet - but will be tomorrow!

I am doing the English Cottage kit by Debbie Young.  I primed all the timber pieces and once they were dry I was able to do the first part of assembly.  Here's what is looked like at this stage - not the most glamourous, but it will improve vbg.

Then I did the exterior with spackle.  This takes quite a while but is surprisingly satisfying.  While that was drying I was able to get the first two coats of white on to the ceiling for the ground floor.  Tomorrow I will be able to paint the exterior and hopefully start the wallpapering as well.

Jan has a lot more pieces in her kit than I do so she will assemble hers tomorrow, and then do the spackling on both the inside and the outside.  Her Villa will be wonderful when it is done - I think I am tempted to add this kit to my wish list.  Of course I need another kit - well, just in case I need a change of theme from the English type lol.

In between these steps we explored various things on the computer, Jan did lots of fetching and carrying of supplies, and we generally had a really lovely time.

I have brought 'Toadstool Cottage' with me, and the supplies I have to fit it out inside and I had planned to start making some of those up tonight.  But after such a busy and productive day following on from the very hectic last couple of weeks - I am going to have another early night.

Keep tuned - photos of both houses tomorrow!

  1. Hi Sandra, look what you already accomplished in just one day, I am really looking forward following your progress with this kit. I googled and found Debbie's web site and a photo of the finished cottage, looks lovely (and so do all the other kits and accessoires she sells). Have fun mini-ing with your friend.

  2. Yes Chris, we sure are and will have fun! Thanks so much for looking and for your comment. Debbie sells some lovely houses - I also have the John F Craig (think that's its name)Mansion - now that's a BIG quarter scale project! Very special. And of course I am doing the Town Square series too.
