Happy Australia Day

It is 26th January here in Australia, so it's a public holiday. It is meant to be a day of celebration - celebrating what is great abut Australia and being Australia, what we can be proud of, and how we can make Australia an even better place in the future. Most towns and communities have Australia Day celebrations and events. And of course there is always a test cricket match going on :)

The date was chosen because it is the anniversary of the arrival in 1788 of the First Fleet , which consisted of 11 convict ships from Great Britain and the raising of the Union Jack in Sydney Cove by Captain Arthur Phillip.

So - if you are an Aussie, however you celebrate it, Happy Australia Day! Whether you attend a community function, or have a family get-together or just have a quiet day, I hope you take time to pause and reflect on how fortunate we are to live in this wonderful land with the freedom and plenty that we so often take for granted. Let's make it a day when we contemplate the blessings and appreciate them, and show the pride in our land that we are so often too reserved to demonstrate.

  1. Happy Australia Day to you and your family Sandie. I agree with everything you said, we are so fortunate to live in this wonderful country but we don't appreciate it or look after it as much as we should. We are going to stand out the front of our house and watch the fire-works tonight at the lake, we can see and hear the display from here.

    1. How lovely to see the fireworks from your house. We had a few being let off around us but we couldn't see much. I do think that people are beginning to appreciate our country more as we see the wars and devastation around the world - but we still don't look after things enough!
      Hugs, Sandie

  2. Happy Australia Day to you to Sandra. The only way we could be luckier to live in Australia is if there were more DollsHouse shops here!

    1. That's for sure Alennka! And more dollshouse fairs too, as long as they were big ones. But I guess with our small population we can't support more Fairs than we have. But let's all remember to support the dollshouse shops we do have, as much as we can - I am trying to encourage them to have more quarter scale inventory. A bit of a way to go there though!
      Hugs, Sandie
