Started Honeysuckle Cottage
Why, you ask? Because I am not sure how long we will be here at Queanbeyan, the weather is not predicted to be good for the next few days, and I don't want to be fiddling with clay that might need to be kept weighted down while we make the trip home. Plus I have whooping cough and Peter won't make the trip home yet because he feels that the strain of it will put me in hospital. So I don't have a lot of energy to play with clay. I hope I feel better soon though, because Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark have just landed at Canberra airport for a visit and I'd love to be able to walk and to see them, once I am no longer infectious. Meanwhile the nebulizer is my very best friend and cough medicine a close second.
I debated about which finish to use for this cottage but had some strips already cut for weatherboards so decided to go with those, like Bea has with her sample. The trouble was that I had cut them too narrow so Peter raided the pantry cupboard and I claimed the box for Nathan's breakfast cereal. Bless him, he loves his Sanitarium Weetbix Bites and they come in a lovely big box, just perfect for my needs.
After I had glued the 'weatherboarding' on the front and sides of the house, I sat and had a giggle at the colourful result and just had to share it with you.
Here's the body of the cottage with the removable front sitting against it.
And here is a view of one side of the house:
And here is the other side - mainly blue this time, just for a change of colour scheme lol! I took this photo before I trimmed the edges, so it looks even more odd. And no of course I didn't leave it like that, it's just to show you how it was in the 'before' stage.
What do you think? It's certainly a different look, isn't it? It seems almost a shame to cover it over lol!

Those triangular bits sticking up are the attic walls and will be hidden within the removable roof. |

Hi Sandra, sorry I have been away from your blog for such a long time. I enjoyed reading about your current trip and love the cereal cottage VBG. Hugs from Chris
ReplyDeleteHi Chris, how nice to have you visit again! My Weet Bix cottage is certainly colourful, isn't it? Don't forget to check it out once it is painted over - bit sad to do so but that's life I guess lol.

I have just caught up - you poor thing! I had whooping cough for Christmas last year and it was a gift I could easily have done without. I'm glad you are feeling better - take it easy. :)
