Pickett Hill is getting so exciting

2nd floor done and roof on!

It’s lovely to have you join us here

First, thank you Helen and Elayne, for visiting here and signing on as Followers. I truly appreciate your interest and support. I’d really love it if you returned often and left feedback about what you see on the different posts, past and present. I look forward to any constructive criticism about how I can improve, techniques that can help, or comments in general. So – sit back with a cup of coffee or your favourite beverage, dip into the posts and (I hope) – enjoy!

Elayne, you don’t list a blog – please let me know if you have one.

Helen has a blog called ‘Building Miniature Dreams’ and I recommend that you have a look at it. She is a very talented lady in so many areas – painting, modelling, needle-felted animals and also structures. It was seeing her first Petite Properties kit finished that helped me get the courage to finally start on my first kit, the Corner Shop. I would love to have just half the talent that Helen has. I am fortunate enough to be a member of a group to which she also belongs, Miniature Haven, and look forward to seeing her new projects as she does them.

Reading Nook

As promised, I took photos of the Reading Nook, and here it is. It is a door that has had the books painted on to it, and a seat added to the front - I won't tell you the reason for that, but it adds to the interest of this house to have a story attached to so much of the furniture.

All taped up

Next step for Pickett Hill was to fit the walls on the second floor – the knee walls for the bedroom and bathroom. First they needed to be dry-fitted, and the roofs dry fitted as well. Here are some views of the house, with the chimney just sitting against the house, the roof pieces lined ready for the shingling, and all the roofs dry-fitted and taped more or less in place.

First, front view

Side view with chimney sitting there

Rear view showing the bedroom knee wall sitting in place (not glued yet) and roof taped on

Right side view showing bathroom knee wall sitting in place (not glued yet), roof taped on. Obviously the tape interferes with the exact fit, but having it all taped together does give an idea

of what it will look like.

I am so excited about the progress!!!! Can’t wait to keep going – I hope I have a chance tomorrow night because we are going away for a week and I don’t think I will be taking it with me L

Next evening

Well, it happened! I was able to put the 2nd floor on - whoo hooo!!!! In between packing for our trip, while Peter was taking things around to the caravan, I did a little bit at a time tonight and here it is, still all taped up while the glue dries, but I couldn't wait to show you the photos.

Front view with the verandah floor and steps just sitting in place

Left side with the chimney glued on and taped in place to hold it there - but I've noticed that the top section has separated slightly from the lower chimney, which is annoying. The glue is too dry to do anything about it. So I might have to put some trim around it or something.

Rear of house, showing the main bedroom, all papered. I even have the skirting boards in place :).

Right side, with the bathroom papered and skirting boards here also in place. I'm not gluing the false doors in place yet until I have all the furniture arranged in place, so I know the best place to put them.

So that's why I'm so excited. Next step is painting the whole thing then putting in the bay window and other windows. Nearly there now, because a lot of the following steps are already done - assembling the portico, making the false doors, painting the shingles and making the front steps.
